The origin cricket club in Indian history may be traced to the early 1700s and are unquestionably connected to the emergence and growth of the British Raj through the East India Company. An unofficial match between English sailors in 1737 is the first instance of cricket being mentioned in writing about India. Around 1800, the Seringapatam Cricket in India and Football Club and the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club were both established. In 1864, Calcutta and Madras played in the inaugural game of first-class cricket in West Indies. The English and Indians frequently played first-class cricket during the period to foster trust.
