There are other bits and pieces of equipment the area to help you clear the swing in anticipation to knock in a parry early or try to volley strikes back and forth I'll agree to a certain extent that HP is pretty small, however, the first strike could give you a chance to hit a parry.
Concept being parrys are more of a timing issue and shield blocks are less efficient, but much easier to use. Even if your opponent is likely to launch with a parry , be prepared to launch a heavy attack instead and just blow through. Perhaps release your charge earlier as they start to back away from the heavy attack. You can then smack them with a swift light attack instead.
The fact that parry and block are reliable is just grounds for there to be several solid defensive and offensive counters consequently. This also opens up the possibility of mind games that involve melee combat.
I completely agree with the idea to touch melee combat as it feels just... bizarre as of now.
It doesn't matter if it's chivalry-like mordhau-likeor mnb-like or mordhau-like, I don't care. However, the current melee combat system is not as engaging or thrilling as the ones i listed above, since I cannot even decide which direction I would like to go. The system should allow more space for every weapon to flourish instead of being thrown into a corner.
And it's also for that "outplaying" gameplay. There are more options to attack, which means more tactics means more outplays. Currently the game heavily relies on gears, as the game lacks matchmaking that is based on gears, and the use of better gears will bring you wins most of the time, no matter if you hit 10 or 15 hits, cuz opponents simply don't get killed.
