In 2014, Mathur, along with his co-founder Shashank Kumar, identified a gap in the Indian payments ecosystem. They realized that businesses were struggling with cumbersome payment processes. Razorpay was conceived to bridge this gap and provide a seamless, developer-friendly payment platform.
The startup began its journey as part of the Y Combinator accelerator program, making Razorpay one of the few Indian startups to achieve this distinction. This experience laid the foundation for its global ambitions and innovative approach.
