Has anyone had success repairing old equipment instead of replacing it?

I have been trying to get better at repairing and improving things instead of immediately replacing them. Recently, I noticed that some older tools, outdoor equipment, and metal items can still be useful if they are repaired properly.

For projects involving broken frames, brackets, or custom metal parts, I was wondering if people usually try DIY fixes or look for local professionals. Searching for Welding and fabrication near me seems like one option, but I’m curious how others decide when a repair is worth the cost compared to buying something new.
