In an electrifying encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off a remarkable five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the latest Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture. The match, held on March 27, 2025, saw SRH post a competitive total of 190/9, only for LSG to chase it down in just 16.1 overs with a stunning batting display.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Innings Opting to bat first, SRH got off to a solid start, with Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Agarwal setting a strong foundation. Abhishek’s aggressive 48 off 29 balls provided early momentum, while Agarwal played a steady knock of 37. However, things took a turn when LSG’s bowling attack, led by Shardul Thakur, began to dismantle the middle order.
Despite a quickfire 42 from Heinrich Klaasen, SRH struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking in the death overs. Shardul Thakur was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 34 runs, while Ravi Bishnoi chipped in with two crucial scalps. The disciplined bowling effort restricted SRH to 190/9, a total that seemed competitive but ultimately fell short.
LSG’s Blazing Chase In response, LSG came out with intent, with skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock setting the tone early. While Rahul fell cheaply, De Kock’s quick 35 ensured a strong powerplay. However, it was Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 70 off just 26 balls that stole the show. His fearless hitting, laced with six sixes and five boundaries, took the game away from SRH.
Mitchell Marsh also played a pivotal role, anchoring the innings with a well-constructed 52. By the time Marcus Stoinis came in, the match was all but over. He finished the chase with a flurry of boundaries, sealing the win with more than three overs to spare.
Post-Match Reactions Speaking after the game, LSG captain KL Rahul praised Pooran’s incredible innings and the team’s all-round performance. "It was an outstanding effort by the boys. The way Pooran took charge was incredible," Rahul said.
SRH skipper Aiden Markram admitted that his team fell short in the bowling department. "We needed a few early breakthroughs, but credit to LSG for the way they batted," he remarked.
With this victory, LSG strengthens its position in the IPL points table, while SRH will need to regroup before their next fixture.
