NOMOS Two Unique Watches Review
At Watches & Wonders 2026, NOMOS unveiled a new series of high quality fake watches labeled "Twice Unique." These timepieces, sold in pairs (stainless steel and 18K gold), feature unique dial designs that blend "artistic experimentation" with "traditional craftsmanship." Upon learning of this new collection, Angus Davies, a loyal NOMOS enthusiast, questioned whether the German brand had strayed from its egalitarian principles.
18th-Century "Chinese Watches"
In the 18th century, Swiss watchmakers exported a large number of "Chinese-style watches" to China. At that time, China's economy was booming, and the ruling class had accumulated considerable wealth, leading to a passion for purchasing luxury goods, including watches. It is said that the Qianlong Emperor (reigned 1711-1799) purchased more than 100 watches annually.
These Western products, blending precision mechanics with traditional craftsmanship, were highly sought after. Emperors, royalty, and specially selected officials favored purchasing pocket watches in pairs, often adorned with mirrored enamel paintings. While some celebrated Chinese culture, most depicted figures and motifs from European life.
Interestingly, there seems to be some debate about whether these watches were sold in pairs purely for commercial purposes (such as to boost sales) or because buying in pairs was a common practice in 18th-century China. Another perspective suggests that buying high quality replica watches in pairs was a practical consideration. One watch could be worn while the other was sent for servicing or repair, a process that could take months, especially when the watch needed to be sent back to Switzerland for maintenance.
Perhaps the most plausible explanation is that mirrored pocket watches catered to the Chinese societal reverence for harmony and symmetry. These rare, unique, and extremely expensive watches, crafted for a select few, represented the pinnacle of watchmaking craftsmanship and European refinement.

NOMOS Double Unique – Watches & Wonders 2026
At Watches & Wonders 2026, I saw a range of unique, modern timepieces, also sold in pairs, reminiscent of historic mirror-image timepieces. However, these rare pieces weren't from the usual six-figure watchmakers. Instead, these watches, titled "Twice Unique," were created by NOMOS. This Glashütte-based brand is said to be Germany's largest manufacturer of mechanical watches and has achieved great success in creating affordable luxury timepieces.
As a devoted NOMOS enthusiast (my wife and daughter also own NOMOS replica swiss watches), I make no secret of my love for the brand. However, I must admit that before attending Watches & Wonders, I never imagined NOMOS would release a limited-edition pair of watches (see below). In fact, seeing these new timepieces made me wonder if my beloved brand had strayed from its founding principles.
NOMOS – An Egalitarian Brand
NOMOS was founded in 1990 by Roland Schwetner, just two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A former photographer and IT expert with an MBA, Schwetner had a unique vision for creating a new type of luxury watch brand.
He chose to locate his startup in Glashütte, a small town in Saxony with a long watchmaking tradition dating back to 1845 when Ferdinand Adolph Lange opened his first studio and took on 15 apprentices.
NOMOS's first products were designed by Susanne Günther, a graphic designer heavily influenced by the Bauhaus, the German Craftsmen's Union, and the Ulm School. The Bauhaus, founded by Walter Gropius in 1919, adhered to the principle of "form follows function," a concept first proposed in 1896 by American architect Louis Sullivan. Sullivan believed that a building's purpose should dictate its design. Similarly, Gropius's Bauhaus emphasized function over decoration and advocated standardization. The Ulm School, on the other hand, highly valued the social responsibility of designers, using modernist principles to conceive products for a better new world. Their design philosophy championed democracy over economic interests.
However, most importantly, the greatest influence on nomos replica watches product design and construction has always been the German Craftsmen's Union (Deutsche Werkbund). Founded in 1907, the German Craftsmen's Union brought together product manufacturers and design professionals. Its fundamental goal was to enhance Germany's competitiveness on the world stage, combining traditional craftsmanship with mass production technology. The organization's motto, "Vom Sofakissen zum Städtebau" (From sofa cushions to urban construction), has since influenced the design and manufacturing of many NOMOS products.
From its inception, NOMOS has focused on creating high-quality, functional, and affordable watches. While upholding traditional watchmaking craftsmanship, the brand also actively adopts modern mass production technologies such as CNC (Computer Numerical Control). This German brand's watches adhere to a philosophy of understated luxury while maintaining affordability. In short, NOMOS is renowned for its design, in-house movements, and reliability, consistently upholding these design principles.
As of this writing, NOMOS has won over 170 international awards, proving that affordability doesn't mean sacrificing quality or style. In fact, this brand, famous for its exquisite German watchmaking craftsmanship, maintains an egalitarian approach to haute horlogerie.

NOMOS's Double Unique – Based on Creative Freedom
The new NOMOS Twice Unique collection doesn't abandon its founding principles; it's not designed solely for the elite, but rather conceived based on the concept of "creative freedom" and a respect for traditional craftsmanship.
These watches are sold in pairs, almost identical except for the case: one in stainless steel and the other in 18K gold. NOMOS has extensive experience in gold watchmaking, but in recent years, its gold watch line has significantly expanded, offering customers more choices.replica breitling chronomat watches
Brand enthusiasts will instantly recognize the classic design of each "Twice Unique" watch, with models such as the Ludwig, Orion, Tangente 33, Tangente neomatik 38 Update, and Tetra all featured. Similarly, the German watchmaker powers these rare timepieces using its extensive portfolio of in-house movements. By utilizing existing cases and movements, NOMOS achieves economies of scale, a key to its success and aligned with the principles of the Deutsche Werkbund (German Federation of Crafts).
NOMOS's Double Uniqueness – Anna Diederichs The initial pieces in the Twice Unique collection were inspired by the work of textile designer and artist Anna Diederichs. Born in Sigmaringen, Germany, Diederichs moved to Paris in 1969 and worked at the fashion house Dessins Kanitz. The 1960s were a period of transformation in the fashion world. As the concept of haute couture faded, more and more women sought affordable ready-to-wear. In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent opened his first boutique on the Left Bank of Paris, selling ready-to-wear clothing.
The dial of the NOMOS Ludwig Rive Gauche watch replicates Diederich's original sketches, even down to the clearly visible pencil marks. Both the stainless steel and gold models feature dials that echo this design, predominantly deep red with circular patterns in carmine and cream, providing a perfect backdrop for the hour, minute, and small seconds hands.
NOMOS's second timepiece, inspired by Diederich's work, utilizes textile patterns also from the French capital. The NOMOS Tetra Paris 1966 watch features a vibrant floral theme, with horizontal lines creating a kaleidoscopic effect. This watch's design is energetic, trendy, and eclectic, perfectly complementing the Tetra series' 27.5mm square case. In an era dominated by round watches, the emergence of square watch cases is particularly eye-catching. replica audemars piguet Royal Oak Offshore
