Klaus Hommels was born on 17 February 1967 in Germany. As a part of his alma mater, he graduated with a Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) and Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Fribourg, which is in Switzerland. Looking at his MSBA and Ph.D. in finance degree, it is likely that he had a keen and strong interest in finance subjects, probably economics, business studies, mathematics, and other related subjects, which he might have studied at high school.
Right after his graduation, he served as an Executive Assistant at Bertelsmann, which is the world's largest media conglomerate company. Klaus Hommels was Managing Director for AOL (America Online) Germany from 1995 to 1999. Here he was associated with areas such as business development, content, and advertising. After leaving AOL, he served as a director for Munich-based private equity company Apax Partners until the year 2000.
